The main threat to the survival of the gray wolf was mainly due the hunting and trapping of the wolf because it was thought of as a nuisance and habitat loss due to human encroachment into wolf territories.
2. Another animal is the Canada Lynx, they are due to habitat loss as well as over-trapping. 3. The cheetah threatened by habitat loss and hunting for their spotted pelt. They are also sometimes killed by farmers protecting their livestock. This species is protected by the law, and the American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums is dedicated to the research of breeding the species for preservation.
4. The cougar species as a whole has made a dramatic recovery with over 30,000 in the US alone. The main cause of decline is loss of habitat.
5. There may be less than 4000 red-backed squirrel monkeys left in the wild. The main cause of decline is habitat loss and deforestation due to agricultural clearing of land and tourism development. Also these monkeys were once captured and traded as pets.
What can we do to help? At some zoos you can adopt an animal and help them out with taking care of them. Also some people protest to logging companies, and write letters to the government saying to protect a section species. Some of then natural parks protect some of these animals, and or plants. sometimes the littlest things can help.
